Rock School
Its
the hub of community affairs, tourism, visitors center, art shows
and some of the finest Blue Grass music found east of the Mississippi.
The Old Rock School was Historic Valdese's first high school. Built
by Waldensian craftsmen in the early 1920's, the school local students
attended classes there for 57 years.
In 1986, a million dollar renovation of the facility converted classrooms
into offices for local businesses, the Tourism Center, two art galleries
and an unbelievable model railroad exhibit.
The auditorium hosts musical and theatrical performances, many of
which are put on by Historic Valdese's own Old Colony Players acting
group. A banquet facility (The Waldensian Room) is also available
for meetings, such as the weekly meeting of the Valdese Rotary Club,
and is routinely used by Gardner Webb University for night classes
as well as local industries for training seminars and corporate
luncheons.
